Disobedient Dog? Training Tips That May Help

Training a dog when you have never attempted to do so before can be intimidating. With so much conflicting information out there, it is easy to become overwhelmed. Read on for some simple, basic tips arranged to help you get started. Small steps, gentle ways and patience are all a part of getting your puppy used to their crate. After they become used to each individual step and do not mind going inside the crate, try shutting the door and giving them treats with the door closed. Only keep the gate closed for short periods of time at first and increase time slowly. Freaking out your dog is a sign that you need to slow down. Make the dog know that the crate is it's home when you are doing crate training. When meal time comes, place the food bowl in the crate and keep the door open while the dog eats. This will help them associate good food to the crate. Timing is important when dog training, so you should spend sufficient time training him but should not overdo it. Shorter training sessions are better at the beginning of your program. Know when your dog does not pay attention when you are training it.

Chew Toys

Give them chew toys for pain relief while teething, and keep everything else out of reach. Replace the tasty item you do not want chewed with a designated chew toy. Puppies sometimes chew objects while going through their teething phase. A wet cloth that has been frozen is perfect for them during this time. Make sure your teething puppy has a bunch of chew toys readily available to him, and keep other things he likes to chew on away from him. Give the dog one of its own chew toys right away. In cases where your puppy is suffering a great deal of pain, try soaking a washcloth in water and freezing it as a numbing chew toy. Use consistency when you are crate training your young puppy. As soon as the puppy is out of the crate, let them have an opportunity to go outside and relieve themselves. The dog will eventually learn that there are proper times to go outside and use the restroom. Training your pet to roll over very easy. Just remember to have treats in hand. Initially, try to get your dog to lay on the floor. The next step is to hold a treat close to the floor by the dog's head then continue to move the treat over his head until you reach the other side. Ideally, your dog will use his nose to follow the treat, rolling his whole body in the process. As he rolls, state the command "roll over" in a firm tone. Repeat the process until your dog associates the command with the action. Do not get mad if it takes several tries. Once they learn this particular trick, they will be popular at the dog park! Avoid restraining two dogs too closely together. The dogs chains could get tangled up and cause harm to the dogs as they struggle to get free. For example, a large dog could tangle the chain with a smaller dog, wrapping the chain around the neck of the small dog, causing it to die. As you encounter unfamiliar dogs, make certain to advance with care and let the dog smell your hand. This lets the dog get accustomed to your smell and he will be more trusting towards you. After the dog becomes familiar with your smell, he'll start to trust you and listen to you. Repeat training exercises every day until your dog remembers them. Do not believe that just because you dog has graduated from obedience school that training is complete. Don't allow your dog to get out of the habit of good behavior. This is why you must make sure that you have a rule system that is strict for your dog. These training tips are applicable to many situations. Putting these tips into action while training your pup can help the two of you forge a wonderful ongoing relationship. Refrain from using higher end training gadgets, such as shock collar devices. In many cases, they do not live up to the advertising expectations created, and are just more money than more effective and traditional training tools. These devices can stifle your dog's natural reactions and have negative effects on even good or acceptable behaviors. In general, using such techniques produces negative effects.
